If you have a seriously damaged tooth and visit your periodontist in Miami, FL, your dental professional will do everything possible to save your tooth. After your permanent teeth come in, those teeth need to las the rest of your life, so losing any of them means having to turn to either dentures or dental implants. While both Dr. Bradley A. Ross and Dr. Scott B. Ross are skilled at saving teeth, there are some instances where a tooth cannot be saved.
 Tooth Extraction
If a tooth sustains significant damage and cannot be saved, Dr. Ross may perform a tooth extraction. This is when the tooth is completely removed from the mouth. Our staff will do everything possible to minimize your discomfort during such a procedure. There are a few reasons why you may need a tooth extractions:
 ·         Trauma. High-contact sports involve a lot of physical touch. A blow to the head or face could break a tooth or cause it to fall out completely. If it is not possible to restore the tooth using other methods, Dr. Ross will need to remove the rest of the tooth to prevent infection and other issues.
 ·         Decay. It is important to brush and floss your teeth every day and avoid consuming too much sugar. Without proper care, your teeth can decay. If left untreated, this decay could damage the tooth beyond repair, requiring extraction.
 -         Wisdom Teeth Removal.     Everyone has wisdom teeth that start coming in during the teen years. In most cases, however, the wisdom teeth are unable to break through. They may become impacted, or trapped below other teeth in the mouth, or simply not have enough room to come through. You can plan ahead to have wisdom teeth extracted before they cause a problem. This is another common scenario where a tooth often cannot be saved.
